Shrek 4 Plothole!

It's taken me eight years, but last night I began a Shrek story and something dawned on me. Rumpelstiltskin used his magic to get rid of the king and queen. He read the book based on Fiona's life (who can't relate to that?), he knows they had a daughter; why didn't she vanish, too?
Yes, I know. If she had, the alternate universe couldn't have been defeated, which was in the contract. But obviously Rumpel is a scheming little rat (who was originally designed to look like one, by the way), killing off the king and queen was not in their agreement, and he did it anyway; so if Rumpel had been smart in his deception, he would have made absolutely sure Shrek could not share true love's kiss. And then what? Well, I suppose the real universe would just vanish without anyone noticing; and the alternate universe would continue forever.
      Ugh...

  1. I guess I can't answer that ... it's made me think, though ... did the king and queen not exist to begin with (if so, Fiona wouldn't exist), or did they just disappear/go missing? Hmm :p

    1. If they hadn't existed, they wouldn't have been in Rumpel's way.

    2. Good point :p

I'm awful with time travel storylines ...

    3. It took me several years and the help of others to start understanding it.

    4. I've gone over and over time-travel storylines, and for the most part they annoy me right off the bat - I guess because a lot of writers make it look as though a person who has time-travelled exists in two (or more) times/places simultaneously without dealing with the problems and possibilities this could cause.

It would be easier if they would just come out and say "Person A has travelled one year backwards in time and is no longer part of the present - they've left this time behind, so that's that". :p

    5. Shrek is actually the only time-travel anything I've ever watched; but there is a HUGE plothole that I just now realized. I can't believe I've never noticed it before, but it's almost enough to take out the enjoyment of it.
When entering into the alternate universe, Shrek lands in the pathway of the tour bus that always circles the swamp, which he reaches in running distance. Yet Fiona and the Far Far Away king-dom are right there. And Donkey works at the kingdom, so for some reason the witches capture him on their brooms and fly him to the carriage to drive him to the kingdom. Easier for Shrek, but MUCH slower for them.

    6. The fact that the swamp and Far Far Away are so close together despite the awesome 'Are we there yet?!' scene from Shrek 2 has bugged me for a while ... I don't know if it was just a continuity error or if the writers planned to explain it somehow, but it does suck :p

    7. He was unconscious, so the crew might have thought, Okay, we'll just skip ahead. But it still makes no sense that they would fly most of the way and then get into a carriage. Unless they just did it to show off their catch.
