I've been doing some serious movie marathons lately. Of course, the Shrek franchise was included. And the irony finally hit me. You know where Fiona messed up the most? Okay, so Dragon roars, and she incredulously asks, "You didn't slay the dragon??"
And I'm sitting there, like, "No, he broke through the stone roof on purpose; it's called making an entrance."
And then there's Shrek's blunder. "How about the day I met Donkey? Now there's a day I'd like to take back!"
Even if Stiltskin had taken that day from Shrek, he'd still be in the same boat, not knowing Fiona. Because without Donkey, Shrek wouldn't have found Farquaad's tower.

I re-watched the Shrek series recently, too ... it was awesome :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think Fiona was entirely serious; her question was mostly shock and fear and quite a bit of "What's wrong with you?? How are we supposed to get out of here with a fire-breathing dragon chasing us down?? You idiot!!" :p
I was thinking that, too, about Shrek giving up the day he met Donkey - but at that point in the movie, Shrek didn't know what the consequences of his action would be. He had no idea Rumpelstiltskin was a jerk, that he would happily leave Fiona in a tower and erase Shrek's children from existence; had he known, he wouldn't have made the deal. But he just thought he was going to have one magical day to himself, that his family would never know he was gone, and that he would soon be back with them, feeling like himself again. :)
I think the fourth is my favourite Shrek movie ... :D
Yes, but he did know the day he met Donkey would be erased from time. I just want to know how Stiltskin got his hands on such powerful magic.
DeleteI also wonder if Zurg knows he's a toy. If he doesn't, he would actually want to destroy the planet.
